MENTORS

The painter from Gijón Evaristo Valle and the canning industrialist Alfonso Albo made it possible for Antón to move to Madrid to start his artistic training.

As a thank you, Antón created the cast bronze bust that is on display in this room. Both were made from the original plaster models.

Alfonso Albo, 1930.

This bust is a portrait of Alfonso Albo, Antón’s sponsor and owner of the Albo de Candás canning factory. As a thank you, the sculptor also portrayed him in the oil painting on display next to that piece. Both pieces have a deep expressiveness in which the artist enhances the frontal vision of the person portrayed in an extraordinary way.

Evaristo Valle, 1932.

Evaristo Valle discovered Antón’s artistic ability in 1930 at the La Felguera V Certamen Provincial.

To thank him for his support, Antón made this portrait of him in 1932.

A piece without a trace of idealisation, in which Antón focuses purely on the personality of the person portrayed, he emphasises, with enormous realism, his most peculiar features.
