Amancio González

Amancio obtained the Antón Grant for Sculptural Creation in 1993 for this sculpture, which he created in cast bronze one year later.

Based on a fisherman, the figure is represented with an expressionist voice, bordering on the grotesque.

Notice how his big hands and feet give him a primitive and powerful tone. In his right hand he holds a sardine, the fruit of his work, and with his left he points to where it comes from: the sea.

Each part of the body is made separately, and are not at all proportionate, he emphasises only the parts he wants to draw attention to.
